Sunday, 20th May 2018. 23 degrees. The Old Labray School, in Calverton, was filled with Scouts, Rainbows, Brownies, Cubs, and other local community groups, after they had paraded around Calverton. This year’s theme was ‘A Royal Wedding’, continuing the celebrations of newly appointed Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle, from the day before. There were a number of local community groups that joined the parade, from the Colonel Frank Seely School, on Flatts Lane, and around the streets of the village, including Park Road, Mansfield Lane, Main Street and George’s Lane, covering a total of 1.7 miles! In addition to those on the parade, a vast number of spectators, of all ages, gave everyone a royal wave on the streets of the village. This year, to do something different, the Get Together team decided to not only ask the children of the village to design a poster, to advertise the Get Together, fitting the theme, however they were also asked to combine this with a title. There was an excellent response to this, and the winning poster and title, “A Right Royal Rumble” was designed by Janae Rainey, from Sir John Sherbrook School. Congratulations Janae! As the parade entered the main venue, the smell of the BBQ, along with the music and lively atmosphere, everybody watched on in anticipation, as the Gedling Borough Council’s Deputy Mayor, Barbra Miller, officially opened the Village Get Together. Barbra was then presented with a bouquet of flowers, from this year’s May Queen, Neave Kielty. Neave had always dreamt of becoming the May Queen, and this year, her dream came true, however, unfortunately for Neave, this was dampened with the news that her baby nephew, Oliver, was diagnosed with a brain tumour, and is currently undergoing treatment. Oliver was at the Get Together, in support of Neave, who wore a wonderful grey dress, in support of brain tumour awareness and for their ‘Go Grey For May’ event, that is happening across the month of May. The May King, Jacob Elliot, the May Princesses, Ingrid Bell, May Crabtree, Rosie Mellors and Imogen Meads, and May Princes, Stryker Bassford, Tom Mosley, Henry Ainley and Harry Griffiths, joined the May Queen, for a photograph, and looked absolutely delightful. The Village Get Together set up a stall, in order to raise money for the brain tumour awareness charity, and the teams who won first, second and third place in the Get Together’s sporting event made the decision to donate their prize money to the charity, resulting in a staggering £175 for the fund! A massive thank you to St Wilfrids School, The Calverton Warriors and to TGS for your generosity in this. It is greatly appreciated. The sporting event consisted of exciting, and sometimes messy, games, based around the Royal Wedding. The teams, St Wilfreds School, The Sir John Sherbrook School, The Calverton Warriors and The TGS Gym, were made up of 4 adults and 4 children, who all took part in challenging games, entertaining the Get Together’s wonderful audience in the process. As you would expect, all of the teams were very competitive. Congratulations to St Wilfreds School, who won the team event! Throughout the day, there was an abundance of music, fun and excitement, accompanying the sunshine. To end the event, there was a foam party, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the children, who, not only had fun in the foam, however also had water fightes with the remaining water in the tanks from the sporting games earlier in the day, The Calverton Village Get Together would like to thank all of our event sponsors, and everyone who gave up their time to organise the day. Without you, the Get Together would not have been possible, and would not be as brilliant as it was! Let’s hope that the sun joins us for next year’s event, and that it is even bigger and better than this year’s!

I would like to welcome to you to my new website!
My old website can still be found at http://egvickers.wixsite.com/edwardsphotography, however I am no longer going to be updating that site. I have decided to create a new website, as it has been just over a year since I launched Edward's Photography, and in that time, it has come a long way, from just being able to share my photographs with others in the beginning, to having my own photographs and articles published in local newspapers and are used in promoting local events. To me, this is great news, and I would like to thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to taking lots more photographs, and writing lots of articles, for local publications! Some new features on this website, that were not on my old website include:
If you can think of any other ways that I may be able to improve this website, then please do not hesitate to get in touch, and I will look into all of your suggestions! Once again, thank you for your continued support. Edward |
