On Tuesday, 22nd January, my college class were told that, the following week, a rapper was going to be in our lesson, and that we were to film a music video to one of his tracks. We were told that the rapper is called Snowy, and we were given a choice of 3 different tracks to pick from, to make the music video for. As a class, we did a lot of planning, and listened to the selection of songs a number of times, before coming to the decision to use the track 'Freaks and Kreeps'.
You can listen to the track below:
The overall plan was that, on the day of the shoot, there would be 2 different groups. One group was going to be capturing performance shots, while another group were going to be capturing narrative shots. The difference between performance and narrative shots is that performance shots are of the artist or band, performing their track, in front of camera, and narrative shots are where the shots of the artist or band tell a story.
The set was to be designed in the style of a science laboratory, with a large, old-style television, with lots of different test tubes, filled with coloured water, on the desk, to look like chemicals, and lots of different papers, to create a typical scientist's laboratory setup. On the day of the shoot, the set looked amazing, and even though it had been constructed in a small corner of the studio space, it looked as if it was part of a much larger laboratory.
Snowy was amazing to work with, and we managed to film lots of fantastic shots, both for the performance and the narrative plans. Check out the photographs below, from the day of the shoot.
